Balloon Column Patterns
These 15 columns show only some of the colour patterns in the Column Designer (14 of its 25): spirals, stripes, diamonds, flowers, dots, zig-zags and arrows, shown here with 2 to 6 colours. Patterns can use up to 12 colours, and with manual colouring you can paint any balloon in any colour. The others, such as Colour Block, Diagonal Left, In-Out, Out-In, Random confetti, Rainbow Star and the globe and hot-air balloon patterns, are in the designer too. Each one is shown on the same 16-layer quad column, 4 balloons per layer.
How to read the layers: each small box is one layer of 4 balloons seen from above, like the layer list in the designer’s export. The front of the column is at the bottom of each box and Layer 1 is the bottom layer. Each layer is turned 45° from the one below. Where a pattern repeats, one full repeat is shown.

2-Color Spiral Balloon Column — Black & Gold
Two balloons of each colour in every quad, matching colours opposite each other. The 45° turn on each layer makes the colours climb the column as a double spiral.

Six colours as diagonal stripes. From the front and back it reads like a spiral; it is really diagonal bands, which keeps the rainbow order clean.

What is the balloon column formula?
A standard quad balloon column uses 4-balloon clusters (quads) stacked and rotated 45 degrees between layers. Column height = ((layers – 1) × balloon diameter × 0.8) + balloon diameter. BalloonBuilder’s 3D column software calculates exact layer counts and height measurements automatically.
How many balloons do I need for a 6 ft column?
For a 6-foot (180 cm) balloon column using 11″ balloons inflated to 8″ (20 cm), you need approximately 11 quad layers (44 balloons total). BalloonBuilder calculates exact balloon stock per color automatically.
What colour patterns can I make on a balloon column?

What are the most common balloon column styles?
The everyday column is a classic quad spiral in two, three or four colours. Layered stripes, colour blocks and number columns with a foil topper are the next most common, and organic columns, LOL towers and ring columns are the specialty styles. All of them can be designed in the Column Designer.
